Explore our egg freezing process

Egg freezing might be right for you if:

  • You’re not ready to start a family yet
  • You’re planning for the future and want more options
  • You may undergo medical treatments that impact your fertility
  • You hope to have 2+ children in the future

Egg freezing is most effective for those under 38 years old (ideally age 30-34) with a good ovarian reserve, but everyone’s fertility journey is different. Let’s talk about yours!

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is where the ovaries are stimulated, eggs are carefully retrieved, frozen, and stored for later use. It’s a way to preserve fertility now, so that when the time is right, the eggs can be thawed, fertilized, and used to start a family.

From start to storage, the entire process can take as little as 4–6 weeks. Here’s how it works:

Initial consult & testing

We’ll review your medical history, do bloodwork and an ultrasound to check your ovarian reserve, and talk through your goals.

Ovarian stimulation

You’ll take hormone injections at home to encourage your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Our goal? To retrieve as many mature eggs as possible.

Monitoring visits

During stimulation, you’ll come in for short ultrasounds and bloodwork appointments so we can track your progress. Then, a special trigger shot is the final step before retrieval.

Egg retrieval

We’ll perform a quick, minimally invasive procedure under anesthesia (the best 10 minute nap of your life!)  to collect your eggs. After about an hour of recovery in our care, you’ll be able to head home. Most patients feel ready to return to their usual routine the next day, returning to exercise and more intense activity within a week or two

Freezing & storage

Mature eggs are then flash-frozen and safely stored until the time is right. Because your future deserves to be on your terms.

When you’re ready to move forward with your family goals, your eggs can be thawed, fertilized with partner or donor sperm, and transferred or frozen at the embryo stage. And if your plans have changed, we’ll guide you through your options, whether it’s storage, donation, or discarding.

The two most important factors for successful fertility preservation are:

  • freezing at a younger age (ideally late 20s to early 30s)
  • freezing a higher number of eggs (typically 15-30).

At Terra Fertility, we’ll review your results and help you plan for the best possible outcome when you’re ready. No matter where you are in your fertility journey, don’t worry. You’re in the right place.
